Baryon-driven decontraction in Milky Way-mass haloes

چکیده
We select a sample of Milky Way (MW) mass haloes from high-resolution version the EAGLE simulation to study their inner dark matter (DM) content and how baryons alter it. As in previous studies, we find that all are more massive at centre compared DM-only (DMO) counterparts present day as result dissipational collapse during assembly galaxy. However, identify two processes can reduce central halo evolution Firstly, gas blowouts induced by AGN feedback lead substantial decrease DM mass. Secondly, formation stellar bar its interaction with induce secular expansion halo; rate which is evacuated region this process related average strength timescale on it acts determines much has decontracted. Although regions have investigated still than DMO $z = 0$, they significantly less past expected classic adiabatic contraction model. Since MW both supermassive black hole bar, extent contracted uncertain. This may affect estimates signals direct indirect detection experiments.

Milky Way Mass Models and MOND
Using the Tuorla-Heidelberg model for the mass distribution of the Milky Way, I determine the rotation curve predicted by MOND. The result is in good agreement with the observed terminal velocities interior to the solar radius and with estimates of the Galaxy’s rotation curve exterior thereto. There are no fit parameters: given the mass distribution, MOND provides a good match to the rotation c...
متن کاملMass models of the Milky Way
A parameterized model of the mass distribution within the Milky Way is fitted to the available observational constraints. Constraints at R < R0 and at R ≃ R0 are well satisfied, while those at 1 < R/R0 <∼ 2 cannot be adequately fitted with the consequence that the circular speed vc(R) at R > R0 is extremely uncertain. The most important single parameter is the ratio of the scale length Rd,∗ of ...

7 Globular clusters and Population II stars are fossil remnants of the first major epoch of star formation in the Milky Way. SIM Lite will determine precise distances to selected Pop II objects to define a reliable distance scale, and establish reliable absolute and relative ages. Those ages set a minimum age for the Universe and map the early formation history of the Milky Way. The resultant a...
متن کاملMass Distribution and Bulge Formation in the Milky Way Galaxy
In its first part, this paper summarizes recent work on the mass and shape of the Galactic dark halo. The second part presents a review of the large-scale structure of the Milky Way, and of the evidence that the inner Galaxy is dominated by baryonic matter. This is briefly compared with the predictions of ΛCDM and MOND. Finally, a summary is given of bulge formation from clumpy, gas-rich disks,...
متن کاملThe baryon fraction of ΛCDM haloes
We investigate the baryon fraction in dark matter haloes formed in non-radiative gasdynamical simulations of the ΛCDM cosmogony. By combining a realisation of the Millennium Simulation (Springel et al.) with a simulation of a smaller volume focussing on dwarf haloes, our study spans five decades in halo mass, from 10 h M⊙ to 10 h M⊙. We find that the baryon fraction within the halo virial radiu...
